Bluff Strokes Plein Air.

Karen Cooper / Comment on this

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio Grinnell, Iowa.

Sometimes when an artist tries to do it all, a few things get (ahem) forgotten.

Today, it occurred to me that not everyone gets my what's new updates (maybe you should??)  link

But back to today's blog message, and an update for all you fine blog readers, about something that happened at Bluff Strokes Plein Air in October!

Yes, that would be the first place ribbon for the main event exhibit at Bluff Strokes. And yes, pretty exciting stuff!!

The painting that caught the judge's eye was 4th Street High, a 16x12 inch oil on panel.    link to the painting image

I WAS up high when I painted this - I was standing on the north deck of the Fenelon Place Elevator, a 3'narrow gauge funicular railway.

It's a spectacular viewing point.

Thanks for stopping by!

Another From En Plein Air Texas.

Karen Cooper / Comment on this

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Grinnell, Iowa.

I wanted to share a fun entry just posted on my 'today's easel shot' column.

As follows -

Today's easel shot is from a bit ago, 10 27 2022, to be specific.

But I wanted to tell you about this one anyway.

It was one of the ranch paint days at EPAT. I had already done a morning painting that I really liked, and turned it in.

But I still had some time left.

And there is this event called the 'mini pearl' that is a requirement for all artists at EPAT. A 6x6 or a 6x8 inch small painting to be completed for the special mini pearl stampede that happens on the last Saturday afternoon of EPAT.

I had done a really awful mini pearl of a different subject the day before. So here was a fresh new opportunity!

The painting is in it's new home, so we'll call everybody happy.  But this gnarly photo is all I have to give you a glimpse of what was involved!  (one of these days, I will get a good photo of absolutely everything, I promise)

Wow. It was gorgeous warm weather that day. Yesterday I walked to the basketball game in a winter coat with my wooly scarf. Already ready for summer to return  :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Greetings,

Today's easel shot. 11 9 2022

Will you accept a clump of easel shots all at once? Still playing catch up at this studio!!

From EnPleinAirTexas EPAT.

These were all painted at my host ranch stay. What an outstanding adventure!

This next pair? Painting at the speed of light. Literally. Saw the scene happen one night, and vowed to be set up and ready to paint if the light happened again the next night. It did! Good news bad news: the painting sold right away at an opening reception for EPAT. This little painting never got in front of the good camera. But Howard in Texas knows the actual painting does not have the funky color shifts going on in the foreground  :)
