Zooming In. The Small Daily Painting.

KarenCooper. / Comment on this

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Grinnell, and this edition to my Painting Of The Week column.

I have been talking to you about small daily paintings a LOT lately, no??!!

Okay. Yes, I have been having a lot of fun with them.

The combination of studying a person's features AND zooming in AND using my imagination is, well, just pretty captivating!

Yesterday's (3 30 2020) painting:

Conversing In Tarragona, oil on panel @ 5x7 inches  (click link to portfolio)

is a good explaining tool.

Here's one of my original photo references from that spot, as I was riding the city bus from Tarragona to Salou.

Zooming in. Yes, indeed. It's what people watchers do, you know. And I am really good at it!

I hope you are enjoying these small daily paintings as my brush translates the countenances of a few of the people we share this world with!

Later, Karen

Changes! 5x7 Inch Daily Paintings.

KarenCooper. / Comment on this

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Grinnell, Iowa.

This day must be a good one for changes! And so here we go:

Today, my website portfolio gained a new folder.

I have been on a mission to be more scheduled in daily practice, resulting in an ongoing daily painting project where I complete one small 5x7 countenance exploration in an equally small amount of time!

These paintings have been accumulating in an online presence over at Daily Paintworks and/or my facebook studio page, Karen Cooper Studio.  (click link)

Yes, pretty much one for every day in March minus Sundays.

But things started getting a little garbled, when I started entering them in the FASO Boldbrush competition, and they were not on my FASO website. In the interest of organization (oh, heavens!) we have arrived at this solution.

I have already started migrating the paintings over to the new folder, and will continue to do that in the days ahead.

Here's your link to the new folder:  (click link)

Thanks for stopping by, and please enjoy the paintings as they enter.

If you need to see them all RIGHT NOW, here's the Daily Paintworks link.  (click link)

Oh wait, I almost forgot some color:

Fav 15! Does FASO Know How Much Artists Love Those Words?

Comment on this

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Grinnell, Iowa, for the 2nd time today.

But I just had to share!

"Congratulations! Your painting, "A Moment In Malaga.", was selected as part of the FAV15% (jury's favorite 15% of the entries) in the February 2020 BoldBrush Painting competition."

I wonder if FASO knows how much artists love this message?!!

Also, the painting of noteworthiness, is currently at the RS Hanna Gallery 830 307 3071 in Fredricksburg Texas at the American Impressionist Society Small Works Exhibit, thru April 4th, 2020.

I haven't heard if it's sold yet.....

winkwink

Fractions.

KarenCooper. / Comment on this

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Grinnell, Iowa.

I have been writing about the 'countenance explorations' and my adventures into the resulting group of 'fractionals', which really, are bits and pieces of the former.

Does that all sound confusing?!

Possibly a picture will be worth a thousand words to clear confusion!

I have been posting the small (5x7 inches) fractionals on a Daily Paintworks page:  (click link)

Here's yesterday's post (which of course, shows up today) Yes, life really is confusing.

She's "The Little Old Lady From Bykhanov Park". What a character. If I find a few spare minutes today, I will tell you the rest of her story and post it at the 'painting of the week column. Stay tuned.

Later, Karen

Post Vacation!

KarenCooper. / Comment on this

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Grinnell, Iowa.

We are freshly returned from a lovely vacation AND I am pleased to share the following that happened while I was away!!!:

"Dear Karen, Congratulations! Your painting, "Caught Up In The Sun.", was selected as part of the FAV15% (jury's favorite 15% of the entries) in the January 2020 BoldBrush Painting competition.
You may view the FAV15% paintings, including yours:
http://faso.com/boldbrush/fav15/238"

I am pretty sure, I've told you before, but I'll say it again, there's nothing quite like receiving a 'thumbs up' from a group of artists for your own personal artistic efforts.  Thank you FASO!
