Lights Out. Reflections.
Greetings,
Welcome to the Cooper studio, on location, Lipetsk.
Last night was sketch book Thursday. (yes, of course, photo results, but in a separate post, please)
My муж (muzh-husband-youtoocanlearnrussian:) ) walked down to meet me after рисунок группу - otherwise know as drawing group.
Lipetsk happens to have a fine Italian restaurant - yep, Italian - just a block west of the drawing group's location. So Guisto's, two hungry quasi-Lipetskians, nothing cooked and waiting at the flat, it's only logical the husband would walk down to meet me after group! A fine dining experience was enjoyed, but I have diverged from the order of business of this post. Let's resume our mission.
As we walked from Guisto's to the flat, our path takes us through the park, down the west park path, a lovely, well lit parkway. UNTIL. Until the REFLECTION from someone's glasses hits on the exact location to trigger the light sensor that shuts off the light. Somehow there is only one light along that entire park sidewalk that my glasses get, but it happens every time. Bad reflection? Good reflection? No-matter reflection? You choose. But it gets us to today's topic, and I just know that's what you wanted.
REFLECTIONS. Internet presence. Your paintings. Other folks paintings. Other folks paintings reflections on your paintings on your combined internet presence. Seriously. Is there any hope of sorting this out??? Possibly an itemized list:
1. we are all told we need internet presence with our artwork/paintings/sculpture/whatever
2. there are a plethora of group sites (you too can be on the net for free)
2a. some of those folks will even make prints and sell them for you, unrequested, but that's another story...
3. you upload your images
4. and you get results (wait, wait, we're getting to the REFLECTIONS part!)
4a. do you get on a website where your sitemate's paintings are so dropdead gorgeous that your work is "elevated" just by the REFLECTION of their "aura"?
4b. do you get on a site where mostly it's the dogs hanging out? (that canine reference is not literal, btw) Does the REFLECTION of other folks really sad excuses for paintings just drag your work down to the dumps?
4c. did you just plain luck out and find an internet presence, where your paintings fit?
Okay, if that itemized list didn't do it for you, I've got a real life example.
I get a daily email newsletter, from one of the aforementioned group of artists website. I had a favorite artist on the site, beautifully strong paintings, in fact I began to wonder if he was one of the guys in 4a that was pulling up some of the lessers. As time went on, the number of "lessers" seemed to increase. As the daily emails continued to arrive in my inbox, I realized that I was beginning to feel annoyed at the number of images people were posting, and trying to sell as paintings. Except for Ed. And then poof. He was gone. Gone from that website conglomerate.
Of course, I had no trouble finding him at another place. And maybe it was just a fee thing. Or maybe he got tired of posting work in so many places. Possibly he had a personal falling out with the site manager.
Or MAYBE he thought some of those doggy paintings were reflecting poorly on his work. Reflections.
Something to think about. Eh?
Thanks for stopping by.
Later, KCooper
