Three Good Reasons (Maybe Four) To Remember It's National Bicycle Month

Cooper / Comment on this

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa.

Were you aware?  Did you know?  It's national bicycle month!

And too bad more people don't pay attention to that.  Do you have a neighbor that starts their car to drive a mile and a half to work?  Oh wait, are YOU that person?  Or maybe you pedal your bike to the studio four mornings of every week--yay for you!  If everyone that lived within five miles of their workplace, pedaled, rather than drove, to work tomorrow, I wonder what it would do to the price of oil?

Here's an interesting commentary on the subject you might also enjoy reading:

Oh, and that top three list comes from there--

1.  environment

2.  health

3.  wallet

Maybe we should have called it the "top three list of what biking will save for you", eh?  And it works for artists, just as well as it does for regular people, I am sure!

And is there a number four?  But of course.  Various "Art On The Prairie" artists are taking turns showing a painting over the fireplace in the main lobby of the Hotel Pattee in Perry, Iowa.  (sidebar:  Hotel Pattee, one of a kind, and definitely worth checking out)  May is my month to share, and so a bicycle painting, of course!

Rounding the Corner Off Nicollet, an acrylic painting on a substantial 30 x 40 inch canvas, currently available for your closer perusal at the Hotel Pattee in Perry, Iowa.  Or in my website portfolio, of course.

So it's a beautiful day.  Go paint.  And then later today, treat yourself to a bicycle ride!

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa.

I'm sure I have mentioned before, an affinity for bicycles, at the Cooper house.  Cooper-the-youngest, in fact, is currently working at a bicycle shop in Boulder, Colorado.  And yes, the checkout people at the grocery store still think I'm crazy for loading my purchases into a back pack.  But I didn't have to start the car, and it was a lovely day for a bicycle ride.

How ironic is it then, that the house across the street was just recently purchased by a couple from Virginia, who own a bicycle shop?  I am writing this in IOWA, you need to remember.  Jefferson, Iowa, to be exact.  Not exactly a major metropolis.  And a long way from Virginia.  Are we all mentally humming "It's a small world, afterall" ?

Actually I think it points out the certainty that "bicycle" is a universal langage.  Whether it be racing, mountain, BMX, commuter, or pleasure, or any other purpose, riders of two wheels speak "the language".

And is that why my artist's eye is being roped in by cyclists repeatedly, of late?  I don't think I want to dwell on the details, painting them is more fun.

Arriving, an acrylic painting on canvas, measuring a substantial 40 x 40 inches.  Available in my portfolio, of course.  (click on the red to go to my portfolio)  Thanks for stopping by.
