Routine. And Sometimes That's Good.
Greetings,
Welcome to the Cooper studio, doing our gig in Lipetsk, Russia.
Last night was рисование группа night.
The night I go to my drawing group, here in Lipetsk. We (the muzh and I) have developed a pattern. A habit. A routine. I walk down to the gallery on Lenina at the prescribed hour. Muzh (spouse) walks down after his work day is done, which coincides with drawing group almost being done. And then we go to Giustos. Pasta extraordinaire. What a routine, eh?
The routine broke a bit last night.
Our model arrived late. No worries, we are a flexible sort. But she came, just as we were getting ready to leave. Yowch. Schedule & routine, out the window.
But we artists are a plucky lot, eh? Of course we stayed. Working on that ever lengthening journey of how do I get this right? Put this human on a paper with emotion, and yet still a little bit of accuracy. At least enough to make her look like a human!
Routines can take a bad rap. And often. We hear them peppered with phrases like:
Same-old, same-old
Boring.
I need a life.
Drudgery.
In a rut.
But we have to remember there are good routines, and we must not knock a GOOD routine. The good habits. The to-be-envied/copied-good-pattern. The routine that keeps you on track to getting somewhere.
Thanks for listening,
Karen
PS oh, but of course. The model:
