acrylic painting, on the dock, progress

Greetings,

I painted on this canvas almost all weekend.  Was progress made?  Maybe.  I made the decision to ignore the lake water.  Everybody knows that lakes have little waves that in a painting turn out to be little white squiggle brush marks.  Even Monet did it, huh? :)  Well, sorry, I'm not going there.  The photo is not going to tell you this, but where I wanted the light to shine across the water, I even used vertical strokes.  Now what kind of lake water is that you ask?  Interesting lake water, I say.

You might notice from image one to image three, my characters have shrunk.  Well, almost.  The guy sitting in the adirondack chair still has that really cute (?) penumbra over his head which will hopefully disappear with the next session.  I had a terrible attack of that perennial problem of the painting becoming about the individual instead of the story.  It was becoming all about the lead player's face (Blondie, upfront on the edge of the dock) and I could feel the story slipping away.  I need to think we can all climb into the painting and lollygag there on the dock in the sun with them.

I am playing hookey from the greenhouse tomorrow, we'll get some good painting time in then!

Later, Cooper
